Help on Adobe® Acrobat® PDF Files.

This page provides some basic questions and answers regarding the use of PDF files on this site.  For more detailed help on Adobe Acrobat please consult your product's help utility or alternatively visit the adobe web site.

Why use PDF files?
Documents in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (pdf) preserve the exact look and content of the originals, complete with fonts and graphics.  They can thus be viewed and/or printed the same independent of which browser or platform is used.  These characterstics, coupled with their small file sizes, make them ideal for distributing documents electronically.

What do I need to view PDF files?
You will need an installed copy of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in.  This can be obtained from the Adobe website download page.

How do I save PDF files?
(i) without launching the Acrobat Reader: you can "right-click" on the relevant link and select the save option from the menu (note this is "Save Target As..." in Netscape, "Save Link As..." in Microsoft Internet Explorer, or "Save Link Document As..." in Opera).
(ii) from within Acrobat Reader: use the save icon from the Adobe Acrobat tool bar rather than from the browser file menu.

How do I print PDF files?
Always use the Adobe Acrobat tool bar options and not the browser print functions.  If you find that the edges are cut off when the document is printed, make sure that the "fit to page" check-box is selected in the Adobe Acrobat print menu.
